Our Mission

The objectives of RLCWS are to

The objectives of the Revival of Lepcha Culture and Welfare Society (RLCWS) are multifaceted, with the overarching goal of preserving and revitalizing the rich heritage of the Lepcha community. Firstly, RLCWS aims to revive and propagate the use of the Lepcha language not only among the Lepcha population but also beyond the community. By promoting the Lepcha language, RLCWS seeks to ensure its survival for generations to come and foster a deeper understanding of Lepcha culture among both Lepcha and non-Lepcha individuals.

Secondly, RLCWS is dedicated to the preservation and dissemination of the age-old traditions and culture of the Lepcha society. The Lepcha culture is a treasure trove of unique customs, rituals, art forms, and traditional knowledge that are at risk of being lost in the fast-paced modern world. Through various initiatives and programs, RLCWS endeavors to safeguard and celebrate these cultural elements, ensuring that they are passed down across generations. This not only helps the Lepcha community maintain their distinct identity but also contributes to the broader tapestry of cultural diversity.

Lastly, RLCWS recognizes the importance of empowering the Lepcha community to become self-reliant. To achieve this, the organization engages in activities that promote awareness and skill development within the community. By imparting valuable skills and knowledge, RLCWS strives to enhance the socio-economic well-being of the Lepcha people, enabling them to have greater control over their own lives and futures. In doing so, RLCWS not only supports the Lepcha community’s self-sufficiency but also fosters a sense of pride and resilience within the community as they navigate the challenges of the modern world while preserving their cultural heritage.

The RLCWS strives to achieve the above objectives by mainly promoting the learning of the Lepcha language predominantly with the help of the Rongring Global Lepcha Language Online Course. Apart from this, the focus also lies in invigorating the Lepcha traditional arts and crafts by regularly implementing different activities involving the community members. The larger aim is to preserve, raise awareness about, and bolster the Lepcha ethos in today’s globalized market driven age. The RLCWS over the last year has organized many national and international webinars where a range of speakers, from tribal leaders to international linguists and scholars to folk artists across the globe, have presented on the different key aspects of the Lepcha tribe.
